The document was signed by Roscongress Foundation CEO and Chairman of the Board <strong>Alexander Stuglev</strong> and United Nations Technology Bank Managing Director <strong>Joshua Phoho Setipa</strong>. SPIEF Director <strong>Alexei Valkov</strong> took part in the exchange of documents.</p> <p>The UN Technology Bank is a subsidiary body of the United Nations General Assembly. As the focal point on science, technology and innovation for LDCs, the UN Technology Bank is dedicated to enhancing the contribution of science, technology and innovation for sustainable development in the world’s 46 least developed countries and promotes their integration into the global knowledge-based economy.&nbsp;</p> <p>“The UN Technology Bank is an important organization with activities aiming to help the world’s least developed nations develop their economies, improve people’s living standards, and achieve the sustainable development goals. Today, when even the world’s largest economies find themselves in a stressful situation, such international assistance is of particular importance,” <strong>Stuglev</strong> said.</p> <p>The parties agreed to develop common communication platforms at the international level and cooperate in areas such as investment and finance, export-import activities as well as tourism and culture. The MoU also provides a framework for the cooperation to strengthen existing and to develop new and long-term partnerships.</p> <p>“The Roscongress Foundation, as a socially oriented non-financial development institution, is an organizer of key international communication platforms. The Foundation’s activities make a significant contribution to promoting interstate cooperation in various sectors. Supporting the development agenda of least developed countries requires close cooperation between governments, businesses, and the broader scientific community. University and Industry Collaborations Centre Platform (USIMP) will also be a signatory to the MoU.</p> <p>Science, technology and innovation are enablers of development, the UN Technology Bank as the focal point on STI for LDCs assists them in improving the utilization of scientific and technological solutions and promotes their integration into the global knowledge-based economy.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>TUBITAK as the leading agency for management, funding, and research in Turkey; has been authorized by the Government of the Republic of Turkey to provide financial assistance if appropriate to the UN Technology Bank’s initiatives that help LDCs to technological transformation their economies to meet the goals and targets of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.</p> <p>The MoU provides a framework for the cooperation between the UN Technology Bank, TUBITAK and USIMP in supporting the development projects and activities to promote access to technologies, including the first initiative of developing and implementing applicable models for the establishment of technology transfer offices (TTO) in the selected LDCs.&nbsp;</p> <p>The three organisations plan to cooperate on developing awareness and educational tools to promote global technology access and explore methods to utilize the experience and expertise related to the technology’s assessment, deployment, adaptation and implementation, and related capacity building activities.</p> <p>“This new collaboration between the UN Technology Bank for LDCs, TUBITAK, and USIMP will promote technology transfer and accelerate technological development through different projects in LDCs. The strengthened cooperation will focus specifically on promoting structural transformation of LDC economies in an effort to help eradicate poverty, fostering long-term sustainable development.</p> <p>The partnership will include joint research to assess the needs of least developed countries in the areas of science, technology and innovation. Capacity will be built through training in innovation and technology policies, digital transformation and regulatory and intellectual property rights issues.</p> <p>&nbsp;“I am delighted to formally strengthen the UN Technology Bank’s institutional relationship with The Commonwealth Secretariat, especially at such a crucial time for the least developed countries, 14 of which are members of the Commonwealth” said Joshua Setipa, UN Technology Bank’s Managing Director. “Partnerships such as this are critical to support meaningful transformation in LDC’s, achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and improve access to science technology and innovation. Together we stand a far greater chance of success.”</p> <p>The new collaboration will also help to facilitate technology transfer and innovation within LDCs with The Commonwealth as a new partner of the UN Technology Bank’s Technology Access Partnership.</p> <p>Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland said: “As practical expressions of multilateralism with global reach, both the UN and Commonwealth have long been at the forefront of inclusive cooperation. Through the organs and initiatives which facilitate and encourage cooperation individually and collectively among our respective member countries, we continue to mobilise broad and inclusive progress – particularly for LDCs.”</p> <p>Following the signing of the MOU she said: “Through this MOU the UN Technology Bank and Commonwealth Secretariat enter into a close working relationship which opens up immense potential for fruitful cooperation to promote structural transformation of LDC economies.
