Photo of the day Passing down the memory of Hibakusha 12.08.25 Image Passing down the memory of Hibakusha Today, the UN Pavilion had the privilege of welcoming two Hibakusha, Ms. Koko Kondo and Mr. Hiroshi Kanamoto, who have each spent decades promoting peace and sharing their experiences as survivors of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945. We were also encouraged to learn how the younger generation is striving to keep the lessons from these tragedies alive. During the panel session titled "Securing Our Common Future: Conversations on the Legacy of Nuclear Weapons" moderated by Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu, UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Ms. Anju Niwata shared how she has used artificial intelligence to add color to black-and-white photographs taken at the time, while Mr. Hayato Sadavrati spoke about his experience participating in the Youth Leader Fund for a World Without Nuclear Weapons initiative led by the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA). Mr. Taku Nishimae, Co-founder of 1Future, touched on how his upcoming documentary film aims to highlight the human drama between an American journalist and a Japanese Hibakusha.
