UNAI member institution , Türkiye, recently hosted a seminar on zero waste and good practice surrounding such, encouraging attendees to view waste through the lens of sustainable development.

At the seminar, Ni?de ?mer Halisdemir, University Sustainable Campus Commission Chair, and Environmental Engineer Prof. Dr. Ece ?mmü Deveci spoke, sharing useful information on waste reduction and recycling, waste management, the importance of recycling and zero waste practices, all within the scope of SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. 
 
In her presentation at the seminar, Prof. Dr. Deveci explained how to separate waste at source, reuse and recycle, also speaking about the environmental impacts of reducing waste at the individual and institutional levels. Further presentations were made on examples of successful zero waste projects, highlighting the importance of knowledge sharing and partnerships towards progress on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, discussions took place surrounding how waste affects the environment and climate change, in line with SDG 13: Climate Action.  
 
This awareness-raising activity, which was carried out for students, aimed to provide information and awareness on sustainability around campus, as well as representing an important step towards achieving zero waste.
