On 23 April 2025, the Office of Legal Affairs welcomed 27 participants from 19 countries to the 2025 United Nations Regional Course in International Law for Latin America and the Caribbean. The Regional Course for Latin America and the Caribbean, which is held at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, is organized in cooperation with the Republic of Chile and ECLAC. The Regional Courses in International Law are conducted under the mandate of the United Nations Programme of Assistance in the Teaching, Study, Dissemination and Wider Appreciation of International Law. The opening ceremony of the Regional Course was held in hybrid format, with Ms. Elinor Hammarskjöld, Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, delivering remarks remotely from UN Headquarters in New York.
