UNAI SDG Hub 17 Vice-Chair for Teaching and Education: University of Colombo

Established in 1921, the University of Colombo is the oldest and highest-ranking higher education institution in Sri Lanka. It has a strong platform to support the SDGs, forming multi-stakeholder partnerships that accelerate progress toward key targets. The University collaborates with national institutions, including those directly working on SDGs, offering expertise to accelerate progress. Robust university–industry partnerships—via research and innovations—foster technology driven advances and digitally enhanced progress.  Engagement with civil society helps knowledge-sharing and meet local needs through outreach. UNAI SDG Hub 17 Vice-Chair for Outreach and Partnerships: The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro

The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) is strongly committed to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Since 2023, it has received the “national SDG Education Seal", recognizing projects—many of them outreach initiatives—that promote sustainability within the institution and in its relationship with society. In December 2024, it approved the Sustainability and Regenerative Education (SER) policy, which aims to recognize, expand, and integrate sustainable practices into its academic and administrative activities. In addition, UFRJ participates in “Rede Unisustentável”, a network of Brazilian of Universities, collaborating with other universities to foster a more sustainable society.
